For more than 70 years, Jaypro has built soccer goals that coaches and facility managers trust. Our premium aluminum soccer goals deliver industry-leading strength and stability at a better value, from school fields to official match play. Built for every level. Built to last.

A regulation goal is the centerpiece of any competitive field. It has to measure exactly right, stand up to thousands of hard shots, stay put in the wind, and look sharp on game day. That’s what the Jaypro Nova series was built to do. Here’s what makes a soccer goal regulation, and how to choose the right Nova goal for your field.

What Makes a Soccer Goal “Regulation”?

In the United States, a regulation goal has to satisfy up to three rule books, depending on who plays on it: the NFHS for high school, the NCAA for college, and the IFAB Laws of the Game that FIFA competitions follow. All three agree on the most important numbers. The goal opening is 24 feet wide between the inside edges of the posts, and 8 feet from the ground to the lower edge of the crossbar.

Where they differ is in the details of the frame. The NFHS and NCAA both call for posts and a crossbar between 4 and 5 inches wide. The IFAB sets a maximum of 5 inches (12 cm) and allows square, rectangular, round, or elliptical shapes. All three require the posts and crossbar to be white, and all three require goals to be securely anchored. The NFHS and NCAA also limit markings on the frame to a single manufacturer’s logo.

On top of the rule books, there’s a safety standard. ASTM F2950 is the Standard Safety and Performance Specification for Soccer Goals, and it applies to goals weighing more than 40 pounds. It replaced two earlier standards and is the benchmark for tip resistance and safe construction.

Regulation Goal Requirements at a Glance

  • Opening of 8 ft. high x 24 ft. wide, measured inside the posts and to the bottom of the crossbar
  • Posts and crossbar 4 to 5 inches wide for NFHS and NCAA, 5 inches maximum under IFAB rules
  • Posts and crossbar the same width and depth, finished in white
  • Goal securely anchored, secured, or counterweighted at all times
  • Built to meet ASTM F2950 safety and performance requirements

Every goal in the Jaypro Nova series uses a 4″ O.D. round goal face, which sits right inside the 4 to 5 inch window for high school and college play and under the 5 inch maximum for FIFA. Every Nova goal meets the safety requirements of ASTM F2950-14 and meets NFHS, NCAA, and FIFA specifications.

Why Aluminum?

Aluminum is the material of choice for competitive goals for good reason. It’s strong enough to take a full season of shots and light enough to move when the field needs to be mowed, lined, or rearranged. It also won’t rust the way bare steel does, and a powder coat finish keeps the goal bright white and protected against the weather.

Jaypro pairs that aluminum goal face with smart engineering behind it. Depending on the model, steel backstays and a rear ground crossbar add weight low and to the back of the goal, where it does the most for stability. The result is a goal that plays like a premium aluminum goal and sits like a heavier one.

The Jaypro Nova Regulation Goal Lineup

The Nova series is Jaypro’s top level of regulation soccer goals. Every model is official size, uses a 4″ O.D. round goal face, and comes with Jaypro’s Easy Track net attachment system, official white nets, and a set of four ground anchors.

  • Nova Classic (NOVA-400): The value pick for official play. A 4″ O.D. round aluminum goal face with white powder coated uprights and crossbar sits on a 1.9″ O.D. galvanized steel base and backstays. The backstays run back 9-1/2 feet for a stable base, and the goal ships with four auger stake anchors.
  • Nova Prime (NOVA-500): A step up in strength and finish. The 4″ O.D. round frame runs through the goal face and the base, and the entire goal, including the 1.90″ O.D. steel backstays, is powder coated white for a clean, uniform look. It includes official white hex nets and four J-hook stake anchors.
  • Nova Premiere (NOVA-600): An all aluminum extruded goal with European styling. A 1.90″ aluminum European backstay with a 4 foot top depth holds the net away from the goalkeeper, and a 1/4″ thick steel corner brace reinforces the frame. The entire goal is powder coated white and includes official white hex nets.
  • Nova Premiere Adjustable (NOVA-600AX): Everything the Nova Premiere offers, with an adjustable base frame assembly for multi-use fields. An optional soccer/football anchor kit makes it a strong fit for stadiums where soccer shares the field with football goal posts.
  • Nova World Cup (NOVA-850), coming soon: Jaypro’s upcoming showpiece goal for top level competition. A 4″ O.D. round goal face and base, 1.90″ O.D. galvanized backstays, and a base that flares out for added stability give it a commanding presence on the field. The full frame is powder coated white, and it will come with official white World Cup nets.

Easy Track Net Attachment

Jaypro Easy Track net attachment channel with flush net clip

Every Nova goal is built with Jaypro’s Easy Track net attachment system. Easy Track is a channel built right into the goal frame, and rigid net clips snap into it to hold the net in place. The clips sit flush with the frame, so there’s nothing sticking out to catch a player or knock loose during a game.

For facility staff, that means faster net setup at the start of the season and easier takedown at the end of it. Replacement clips are sold separately and come in white, black, blue, pink, and red, so you can match your program’s colors.

Jaypro’s Commitment to Soccer Goal Safety

A regulation goal is a large, heavy structure, and an unanchored goal can tip over. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has published its Guidelines for Movable Soccer Goal Safety to help schools, parks, and clubs prevent tip-over injuries, and every major rule book requires goals to be anchored, secured, or counterweighted. At Jaypro, we treat safety as part of the product, not an add-on. We also help shape the standards themselves, working with ASTM International and other manufacturers to develop and improve safety standards across many sports and equipment categories.

That commitment starts in engineering. Every Nova goal is designed and built to meet the safety requirements of ASTM F2950-14, the Standard Safety and Performance Specification for Soccer Goals. Features like the rear ground crossbar and backstays that run back for a more stable base are there to keep the goal planted, shot after shot and season after season.

It continues after the sale. Jaypro’s Secure 4 Safety program is our soccer goal safety program, built to help facilities set up, anchor, and maintain their goals the right way, including an ASTM soccer goal counterweight chart so you know how much weight your goal needs. Every Nova goal also includes a set of four ground anchors so it’s ready to secure from day one, and Jaypro offers in-ground anchor weldments (SGA-60), sand bags (SWB-451W / SWB-451), and a weight anchor kit (SGA-50) for different surfaces and setups.

Soccer Goal Safety Checklist

  • Keep goals anchored or counterweighted at all times, in play, in storage, or on the sideline
  • Secure goals at the rear, with anchors flush to the ground and clearly visible
  • Never let anyone climb on, hang from, or do chin-ups on a goal
  • Inspect goals, anchors, and hardware regularly and replace anything worn or damaged

Better equipment and better habits work together. We’re committed to building goals that meet the latest safety standards and to giving the people who use them the tools and information to keep every field safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

A regulation soccer goal is 8 feet high and 24 feet wide. The width is measured between the inside edges of the posts, and the height is measured from the ground to the lower edge of the crossbar. This size is used for high school (NFHS), college (NCAA), and FIFA play.

All three use the same 8 ft. x 24 ft. opening and require white posts and a crossbar on an anchored goal. The NFHS and NCAA require posts and a crossbar between 4 and 5 inches wide, while the IFAB Laws of the Game followed by FIFA set a 5 inch maximum. A goal with a 4″ O.D. round frame, like every Jaypro Nova goal, meets all three.

Yes. The Nova Classic (NOVA-400), Nova Prime (NOVA-500), Nova Premiere (NOVA-600), and Nova Premiere Adjustable (NOVA-600AX) all meet NFHS, NCAA, and FIFA specifications and the safety requirements of ASTM F2950-14. The upcoming Nova World Cup (NOVA-850) is built to the same standards.

For the goal face, aluminum is the preferred choice for competitive play. It’s strong, lighter to move, and won’t rust like bare steel. Many Jaypro Nova goals pair an aluminum goal face with steel backstays and a rear ground crossbar, which adds weight at the back of the goal for extra stability.

Yes. NFHS, NCAA, and FIFA rules all require goals to be anchored, secured, or counterweighted, and goals should stay anchored at all times. Every Jaypro Nova goal includes a set of four ground anchors, with in-ground, sand bag, and weight anchor options available.

Secure 4 Safety is Jaypro’s soccer goal safety program. It helps facilities properly anchor and maintain their goals, including an ASTM soccer goal counterweight chart, and it’s backed by goals built to meet the safety requirements of ASTM F2950-14.

The Jaypro Nova Premiere Adjustable (NOVA-600AX) is designed for multi-use fields. It has an adjustable base frame assembly, and an optional soccer/football anchor kit (SFGA-4, 5, 6) is available for fields with football goal posts.
